Transportation

After several years of research and conversations with telematic OEMs, fleet owners, service managers and drivers, Gamber-Johnson has designed a telematics communication mount that is built to outlast the trucks in which they are placed. While securing the telematic unit and laptops, the unique design also provides:

- a no-drill mounting solution that is easy to install and remove

- an ergonomically designed around the comfort of the driver

- full adjustablility, to accommodate for driver accessibility and line of sight

- easy access to a sleeper cab, exits, stick shift or cab wires

- capable of mounting a scanner, printer or keyboard

Fleets are faced with some very serious pressures. To remain competitive and profitable, they need to control fuel costs, improve customer service, decrease driver turnover, reduce truck down time, and fulfill regulatory compliance without inconveniencing their drivers. We believe that our rugged mounting solutions, coupled with telematic units or laptops, are the answer to managing those business pressures.

Universal Semi-Truck Vehicle Base

The Universal Semi-Truck Vehicle Base was developed using research from the transportation industry and input from fleet managers, drivers, and telematic and truck manufacturers.  What Gamber-Johnson heard from fleet managers and drivers alike is this — most everyone recognizes the need fortelematic units or laptops and the potential for these mobile communication centers to drive productivity and improve delivery times while reducing fuel costs and down time.  But as these units have become more robust with added technology they have also become too heavy to be mounted on the dashboard; and the systems don’t function like they need them to because they are poorly mounted or thrown on the passenger seat.

In response, Gamber-Johnson met with fleet managers, drivers, telematic OEMs and truck manufacturers across the nation to hear, firsthand, what they needed in the cabs of their vehicles. Gamber-Johnson then conducted road tests with its portable signal analyzer to gather real-time data on the stresses the mobile systems would experience in the cab of semi-trucks.

The result is the Universal Semi-Truck Vehicle Base, which is:

Versatile

    - can be mounted in Freightliner/Sterling, International, Volvo, Peterbilt, Kenworth, Mack and Western Star

    - works with standard seating and air-ride seats, including seats from Sears, National, Bostrom, Isringhausen and Seats Incorporated

    - can be installed in day cabs and sleeper cabs

    - adapts to either standard shift of automatic trucks

Ergonomic — designed with driver comfort in mind, allowing the driver to easily see the computer screen, maintain line of sight of the road, and drive without interference

Unobtrusive —allowing easy access to the back sleeper, exits, stick shift and cab wiring

Rugged —made of heavy gauge, black powder-coated steel the vehicle base is securely bolted to the floor and is strong enough to hold a laptop computer or telematic unit while minimizing stress and vibration on the components

Easy to install —no-drill design uses existing seat bolts for easy install or removal to another semi-truck

Adaptable —capable of mounting a scanner, printer or keyboard

Adjustable —the only mounting solution that allows four levels of lateral adjustment within the cab. The base can also be rotated to make the best use of current in-cab storage setup
