MAG 31 Docking Station

The Light-Weight MAG™ 31 Dock is the next version of popular Magnesium Docking Station product line that launched in May of 2008. The Light-Weight MAG™ Dock is die cast from AZ91-D magnesium alloy. AZ91-D is lightweight, has a high strength-to-weight ratio, dampens vibration, and blocks electromagnetic interference (EMI).

FAQs

What is different about the Light-Weight MAG™ 31 Docking Station?

The Light-Weight MAG™ 31 Dock, like its predecessor, is still constructed out of magnesium, but only lighter – it weighs only 4.8 lbs.  It is still the only docking station in the industry with a one-piece magnesium chassis – which means better protection from vibration because the chassis incorporates parts that would otherwise be cast separately.

The new LIGHT-WEIGHT MAG™ 30/31 Dock includes an improved docking handle; ergonomically designed to provide a better grip and smoother docking activation. The new dock also includes a redesigned docking connector bracket with heavier gauge steel; the connector bracket and RF connector bracket both float independently to provide a positive docking connection each time the computer is docked.

How do I know that the Light-Weight MAG™ 31 docking station is rugged enough for my application?

Gamber-Johnson designed and tested the MAG™ 31 docking station with real world mobile conditions in mind to ensure the highest reliability and safety.  The MAG™ docking station has passed a rigorous test program that includes:
•    Vibration testing (Non-operational) - MIL-STD 810G Method 514.6, Category 24, per 514.6 E-1 for one hour in each axis,)
•    Vibration testing (Operational) – to Toughbook criteria which exceeds MIL-STD 810G Method 514.6, Category 24, per 514.6 C-1
•    Functional Shock – MIL-STD 810G Method 516.6, Procedure 1 – Functional shock, 40 g/11 ms, 2 directions per axis, 3 cycles per direction, 18 total pulses
•    Cycle Test - Lock and slide mechanism is cycle tested for 10,000 cycles
•    RoHS Compliant
•    FCC Class B compliant

Does Gamber-Johnson ToughbookÂŽ Certify their docking stations?

Gamber-Johnson has worked with Panasonic to perform the appropriate tests needed to qualify the Light-Weight MAG™ 31 docking station as Toughbook Certified. A Toughbook Certified product is exclusively designed and customized for a specific Panasonic Toughbook® computer. For a product to be classified as Toughbook Certified, it must pass rigorous testing set by Panasonic to ensure it meets the demanding performance standards inherent in the Toughbook brand. Each product receives a level of testing equivalent to its corresponding Toughbook computer, which includes safety and regulatory certifications.

I have a mixed fleet with CF28s, CF29s, CF30s, and CF31s. What Gamber-Johnson docking station will work for these computers?

Gamber-Johnson no longer sells docking stations that work with the Panasonic CF-28 or 29 computers, but we continue to support repairs for these docking stations: NP-PANDOCK series and MAG™ PANDOCK (7160-0227-xx series). Please see the compatibility chart.

Noteš - The High End model CF-31 computer requires a 120W power supply. If your MAG™ 30 Dock with internal power is labeled as REV “D” or higher, you can use it with the CF-31 “High Level” computer. MAG™ PANDOCKS with internal power do not have the recommended 120W needed for the High Level computer.
Note² - True Ethernet is not available; however, a single USB to Ethernet port is available.
NoteÂł - Serial port 1 does not support hardware handshakes with peripheral devices.
Note⁴ - PS2 port will not function

Note: The CF-31 computer fits very tight in the NP-PANDOCK, MAG™ PANDOCK, and MAG™ 30 Docking stations. Docking and undocking may require assistance.

What Power Supply do I need for the Light-Weight MAG™ 31 Docking station?

The Panasonic Toughbook 31 Computer requires a higher watt power supply due to more powerful CPU and internal fan. The Lind 120W power adapter (Gamber-Johnson Part # 14103) is recommended for all MAG™ 31 Docking stations. This power supply is recommended by LIND and Panasonic and features under-voltage and over-voltage protection, output short-circuit protection, safety current limiting, and internal temperature limit cut-off circuitry with automatic reset after cut-off conditions return to normal.

I am using a CF30 computer in a Light-Weight MAG™ 31 Docking Station and only one Ethernet Port will work. Is the docking station not working?

The CF-30 computer passes the Ethernet signal through to the docking station by converting a USB signal. When using a CF30 computer in a Light-Weight MAG™ 31 Docking Station only the “USB to Ethernet” port will work. The “USB to Ethernet” port is located closest to the USB ports.  The CF-30 Toughbook computer doesn’t pass through a “True” Ethernet signal.

What is the difference between the True Ethernet and the USB Ethernet?

The Light-Weight MAG™ 31 docking station has two Ethernet ports and supports a “True Ethernet” and “USB to Ethernet” signal pass through from the computer. The Ethernet port closest to the USB ports is the “USB to Ethernet” port, the other Ethernet port is the “True Ethernet” port. In most cases, you will not notice a difference between the two ports, however if you use certain devices for diagnostic activities (i.e. certain Cisco devices), these will only work with the true Ethernet.
