What is different about the NotePad™ V?
The NotePad™ V is stronger, safer and more aesthetically pleasing than our NotePad™ IV version. The side and rear clips have been improved for a stronger more secure hold on the computer. A heavy duty lock and key was integrated into the design. On the underside of the cradle we've added sliding mount plates that offer a variety of offset mounting options to the user. Molded end caps and anodized aluminum material create a sleeker, sexier, more modern appearance.
What is the benefit of using extruded aluminum over heavy duty gauge steel?
- The extruded aluminum design offers greater precision tolerances resulting in a smoother functioning and quieter operating product.

- Aluminum extrusion offers the flexibility to incorporate intricate features into a design that can be realized in a one-piece format; this also reduces the need for mechanical joining methods.
Why did you use molded plastic end caps?
The molded plastic end caps create a more aesthetic, modern appearance. The rounded corners create a sleek appearance and add to user safety. The end caps also allow a level surface which prevents the computer from rocking.
What is different about the side clips?
The side clips were changed from the old “banana-style" clips to a special “flanged" clip. By utilizing the flanged style clips the strength of the clip was increased as well as the theft deterrence feature. It makes removal of computers by bending the clips more difficult.
Will I lose adjustability with the new "flanged" side clips versus my old "banana-style" side clips?
No. The new "flanged" clips have two adjustment points that allow you secure the computer in the cradle and also avoid most side ports. The side clips are attached to a track that allows you to adjust the clips forward or backward to avoid side ports. The side clips also include height adjustability that allows you to adjust the height from 0" (the deck of the cradle) up to 1.5". The T-molded polycarbonate cover on the side clips allows you to adjust the height of the clip without having the clip flop around while you are making the adjustment.
What is different about the rear restraints?
The new rear restraints have a gusseted design that creates added support for the back of the computer. The restraints have a steel insert that adds to the rigidity of the rear restraint. The rear support clips can be reversed to accommodate narrower computers and net books. The rear restraints also can be positioned to avoid rear ports by moving the restraints right or left along the back track.
What is the benefit of the sliding mount plates?
The sliding mount plates located on the underside of the cradle offer a variety of offset mounting points. On the NotePad™ IV there were fixed, pre-drilled pemmed holes that allowed for offset mounting. On the new NotePad™ V the sliding plates move along a track allowing you to place the cradle at the optimal ergonomic position; the clamping pressure actually locks the plates into place. You don't have to remove the cradle if you need to adjust the position of the offset; simply loosen the screws, slide the Notepad™ V to the desired position, and tighten the screws.
Why did you change the lock on the NotePad™ V?
We switched the lock on the new NotePad™ V for multiple different reasons. First, to remove your computer from the cradle you turn the handle of the lock. By making the lock handle more robust you are able to turn it easier. Another reason for the lock change is that the key to lock is more durable and less likely to bend.
Will the NotePad™ V open and close the same way the NotePad™ IV did?
Yes. We didn't change the way you open and close the cradle. You still give the lock a quarter turn to allow you to open and slide the tray out. Close the tray and turn the lock again to secure the tray into position.
How do I know that the NotePad™ V is rugged enough for my application?
Gamber-Johnson has tested and passed MIL STD 810G, Method 514.6, Category 24 for one in each axis. We have tested the lock and slide mechanism in a cycle test for 10,000 cycles. Gamber-Johnson has also tested and passed the Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) 30 MPH front and side impact test.
What computer sizes will fit in the NotePad™ V?

What optional accessories do you offer?
There are four optional accessories you can order with your NotePad™ V:
- Screen Support (Item No. 7160-0251) — ideal for rugged driving conditions.
- LED Light Assembly (Item No. 7160-0252) — flexible design allows you to angle the light to help you see the keyboard at night.
- Microphone Clip (Item No. 7160-0253) — allows you to hang a microphone off the corner of the cradle.
- Shock/Vibration Isolator Plate (Item No. NP-ISO-20 or NP-ISO-30) — used to help prevent equipment from shock and vibration wear. Is recommended for any non-rugged laptop computer.
What did the NotePad™ V replace?
The NotePad™ V replaced the popular NotePad™ IV — XL (Item No. NP-NOTEPAD4-XL). You can still purchase the regular NotePad™ IV (Item No. NP-NOTEPAD4) for smaller computers. Please see the End of Life (EOL) notice for further details.
